IELTS Speaking Practice Test 9 · Part 1

Part 1: questions about you

4 to 5 minutes.

  • Let's talk about maps. When did you last use a map?

  • Are you good at finding your way in a new place?

  • Have you ever got lost somewhere?

  • Now let's talk about coffee and tea. Do you prefer coffee or tea?

  • Is there a tradition of drinking tea in your country?

  • Where do you usually go if you want a good cup of coffee?

  • Do you ever drink coffee to help you stay awake?

  • Let's move on to talk about keys. How many keys do you usually carry?

  • Have you ever locked yourself out of your home?

  • How do you stop yourself from losing important things?

How to answer

  • Answer in two or three sentences: your answer, a reason and an example.
  • Speak naturally. Short answers like “Yes” are too short.

Part 2: talk about a topic

1 minute to prepare, then talk for 1 to 2 minutes.

Describe something that you made by hand.

You should say:

  • what you made
  • how you made it
  • who you made it for

and and explain how you felt about making it.

Then the examiner may ask:

  • Do you still have it?

How to answer

  • Use the minute to write key words for each point, not full sentences.
  • Talk for the full two minutes. If you stop early, add a story or a feeling.

IELTS Speaking Practice Test 9 · Part 3

Part 3: a discussion

4 to 5 minutes.

  • Let's consider first of all handmade things. Why are handmade products often more expensive than factory-made ones?

  • Do people value things more if they have made them themselves?

  • Are traditional crafts disappearing in your country?

  • Now let's talk about creativity. What stops people from doing creative hobbies as they get older?

  • How can technology help people to be more creative?

  • Should companies encourage their staff to be creative?

How to answer

  • Give your view, say why, and give an example.
  • Talk about people in general, not only about yourself.
