About the IELTS mock test
How a full IELTS test runs
On test day, Listening, Reading and Writing come one after another with no break. Speaking can be on the same day, or up to a week before or after. Each IELTS mock test here runs in that order. Reading and Writing are Academic; Listening and Speaking are the same for Academic and General Training.
A chart, map or process to describe, and an essay.
2 tasks, 150 and 250 words.
About IELTS WritingAn interview, a two-minute talk and a discussion with an examiner.
3 parts.
About IELTS SpeakingHow your overall IELTS band is worked out
Each skill gets a band from 0 to 9. Your overall band is the average of the four, rounded to the nearest half band. An average ending in .25 goes up to the next half band, and one ending in .75 goes up to the next whole band.
- Listening and Reading bands come from your number of correct answers out of 40.
- Writing and Speaking are marked on four criteria each. Our AI feedback ($4 a test, or with the Exam Pass) gives you an estimated band for both.

Example 2

How to get the most from a mock test
- 1
Take it in one sitting
Do Listening, Reading and Writing back to back, as on exam day. Your focus in the third hour matters as much as your English.
- 2
Copy the exam room
Use headphones, a quiet room and no phone. Treat every timer as real.
- 3
Speaking on another day is fine
In the real exam it is often on a different day, so take it when you have a quiet moment.
- 4
Review the same day
Read the explanation of every mistake while the questions are fresh. That is where most of the progress comes from.
- 5
One full test a week
Between full tests, practise the skill and question types that cost you the most marks.
