How your overall band is rounded
Your overall band is the average of your four skill bands, rounded to the nearest half band. An average ending in .25 goes up to the next half band, and one ending in .75 goes up to the next whole band.

Questions
How is the IELTS overall band score calculated?
Add your four skill bands and divide by four. The average is rounded to the nearest half band: if it ends in .25 it goes up to the next half band, and if it ends in .75 it goes up to the next whole band. So 6.25 becomes 6.5, 6.75 becomes 7.0, and 6.125 becomes 6.0.
How many correct answers do I need for band 7?
About 30 out of 40 in Listening and in Academic Reading. General Training Reading needs more: about 35 out of 40.
Why do Academic and General Training Reading have different tables?
The General Training texts are more everyday, so you need more correct answers for the same band. For example, 30 correct answers is about band 7 in Academic Reading but about band 6 in General Training.
Is this my real IELTS score?
No, it is an estimate. The number of correct answers needed for each band can change slightly from one version of the test to another. Only your official IELTS result counts.
Can I work out my Writing or Speaking band here?
Enter them as bands. Writing and Speaking are not marked by counting answers: each is marked on four criteria, and the band you were given is the one to use.
Is Listening the same for Academic and General Training?
Yes. Everyone takes the same Listening test, so there is one Listening table. Only Reading and Writing are different.
