IELTS Speaking Practice Test 8 · Part 1

Part 1: questions about you

4 to 5 minutes.

  • Let's talk about animals. Do you have any pets?

  • Which animals are popular as pets in your country?

  • Could you see yourself working with animals one day?

  • Now let's talk about breakfast. What do you usually have for breakfast?

  • Do you ever skip breakfast?

  • Is breakfast considered an important meal in your country?

  • Do you ever go out for breakfast?

  • Let's move on to talk about humour. What kinds of things make you laugh?

  • Who is the funniest person you know?

  • Is it important for friends to share the same sense of humour?

How to answer

  • Answer in two or three sentences: your answer, a reason and an example.
  • Speak naturally. Short answers like “Yes” are too short.

IELTS Speaking Practice Test 8 · Part 2

Part 2: talk about a topic

1 minute to prepare, then talk for 1 to 2 minutes.

Describe a difficult decision that you had to make.

You should say:

  • what the decision was
  • when you had to make it
  • what options you had

and and explain why the decision was difficult.

Then the examiner may ask:

  • Are you happy with the decision you made?

How to answer

  • Use the minute to write key words for each point, not full sentences.
  • Talk for the full two minutes. If you stop early, add a story or a feeling.

IELTS Speaking Practice Test 8 · Part 3

Part 3: a discussion

4 to 5 minutes.

  • Let's consider first of all making decisions. What makes some people slow to reach decisions?

  • Should young people choose their careers without their parents' help?

  • Is it better to make important decisions quickly or slowly?

  • Now let's talk about getting advice. When they need advice, who do most people in your country ask?

  • How can parents help children learn to make good choices?

  • Do you think people rely too much on the internet for advice?

How to answer

  • Give your view, say why, and give an example.
  • Talk about people in general, not only about yourself.
