IELTS Speaking Practice Test 2 · Part 1

Part 1: questions about you

4 to 5 minutes.

  • Let's talk about your daily routine. Which part of the day do you like best?

  • Do you usually follow the same routine every day?

  • Has your routine changed much since you were a child?

  • Now let's talk about music. What kind of music do you enjoy?

  • When do you usually listen to music?

  • Did you learn to play a musical instrument when you were younger?

  • Do you think music is an important subject at school?

  • Let's move on to talk about parks. How often do you go to a park?

  • What do people usually do in parks in your country?

  • Would you like to see more parks where you live?

How to answer

  • Answer in two or three sentences: your answer, a reason and an example.
  • Speak naturally. Short answers like “Yes” are too short.

Part 2: talk about a topic

1 minute to prepare, then talk for 1 to 2 minutes.

Describe a skill that you learned as an adult.

You should say:

  • what the skill is
  • when and where you learned it
  • how you learned it

and and explain why you decided to learn this skill.

Then the examiner may ask:

  • Was it difficult to learn?

  • Would you like to teach this skill to someone else?

How to answer

  • Use the minute to write key words for each point, not full sentences.
  • Talk for the full two minutes. If you stop early, add a story or a feeling.

IELTS Speaking Practice Test 2 · Part 3

Part 3: a discussion

4 to 5 minutes.

  • Let's consider first of all learning new skills. Why do some adults find it hard to learn new things?

  • Is it better to learn a practical skill from a teacher or from online videos?

  • Which is more useful for young people today, practical skills or academic knowledge?

  • Now let's talk about skills and work. What skills do employers value most nowadays?

  • Do you think machines will replace people in jobs that need practical skills?

  • Should employers pay for their staff to learn new skills?

How to answer

  • Give your view, say why, and give an example.
  • Talk about people in general, not only about yourself.
