Pet care in Lindford

Going away and not sure who will look after your pets? Here are five local businesses that can help, whether you need someone to walk your dog for an hour or to care for your animals while you are on holiday.

Paws for a Walk

AExperienced dog walker Ben Harris takes dogs out in groups of no more than four, so that each one gets plenty of attention. Walks last an hour and take place in the woods just outside town. Ben also offers a 'puppy visit' service, calling in at lunchtime to let young dogs out and give them a meal. He sends owners a photo of their dog during every walk. Walks cost £12.

Whiskers Cat Hotel

BEach cat has its own heated room with a view of the garden, and owners who are away can watch their pet at any time through a live webcam. All cats must be fully vaccinated, and owners are asked to bring proof of this when they drop their cat off. The hotel is open all year round, including Christmas Day.

Home From Home Pet Sitting

CRather than moving your pets, we will look after them in your own home. One of our sitters will stay overnight, feeding your animals, walking your dogs and keeping your house secure. This service is ideal for older animals, which often find a change of surroundings stressful. All our sitters have been checked by the police.

Lindford Mobile Vet

DVet Dr Amy Shaw visits your home to carry out routine check-ups and vaccinations, saving your pet a stressful trip to the surgery. She is unable to carry out operations, but she can arrange for these to be done at a partner clinic in the town centre. Home visits must be booked at least two days in advance.

Fur and Feathers Pet Shop

EAs well as selling food and equipment for all kinds of pets, from rabbits to parrots, the shop runs free advice sessions for first-time pet owners on the first Saturday of every month. Customers who join its loyalty scheme receive 10% off all their purchases, and the shop can arrange for pet food to be delivered to your door every month.

Sending parcels overseas with Parcelpoint

Parcelpoint can deliver parcels to more than 200 countries and territories. Before sending a parcel abroad, please read the following information carefully.

What you cannot send

Many items cannot be sent overseas, either because they could be dangerous during transport or because they are banned in the country of destination. These include aerosols, perfume, matches and lithium batteries, unless the batteries are fitted inside an electronic device such as a phone or laptop. Fresh food and plants cannot be sent to most countries outside Europe. If you are unsure, check the full list on our website before you pack.

Packing your parcel

Use a strong cardboard box, and fill any empty space with crumpled paper or bubble wrap so that the contents cannot move around. Do not use boxes that are damaged or that still show labels from earlier deliveries, as these can cause confusion during sorting. The maximum weight for a single parcel is 30 kilograms.

Customs forms

A customs form must be completed for every parcel sent outside the UK. You will need to describe each item and state its value. Please be as precise as possible: general descriptions such as 'gifts' or 'clothes' are not acceptable. The person receiving the parcel may have to pay import tax before it is delivered; this depends on the rules of the country concerned, and Parcelpoint has no control over it.

Tracking and compensation

Every parcel can be tracked online using the reference number on your receipt. Our standard service includes compensation of up to £50 if a parcel is lost or damaged. For more valuable items, you can choose our Premium service, which provides compensation of up to £500. Claims must be made within 60 days of posting.

Collection from your home

If you cannot get to a Parcelpoint shop, we can collect your parcel from your home or workplace for an extra £3.50. Collections can be booked online until 9 pm on the day before.

Delivery times

Parcels to Europe usually arrive within five working days, and those to the rest of the world within ten. Please allow extra time in December, when delays are common.
