Writing Task 1

Spend about 20 minutes on this task.

The plans below show the ground floor of Westbridge railway station in 1995 and today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

Two floor plans of Westbridge railway station, with Platforms 1 and 2 at the top and the main entrance from Station Road at the bottom. In 1995: toilets, stairs to the platforms and a newsagent's kiosk along the top; a large ticket office with a queuing area on the left; a waiting room and a left-luggage room on the right; an open concourse in the middle. Today: the toilets are larger and include an accessible toilet; lifts have been added beside the stairs; the kiosk has been replaced by seating; a row of automatic ticket gates crosses the concourse; the ticket office has become a smaller travel centre, with ticket machines where the queuing area was; the waiting room is now a café and the left-luggage room a shop; a side entrance from the bus station has been added in the right-hand wall.
